The Federal University of Santa Catarina – UFSC is a public university located in the beautiful city of Florianopolis in the Santa Catarina Island in South-Eastern coast of Brazil. According to the ranking web of world universities is the third university in Brazil, seven in Latin America and number 276 in the world rank. The UFSC has over 34 thousand students and is well-known for the high quality of its undergraduate and graduate courses in several different subjects under the responsibility of each corresponding Department. The graduate program in Chemistry is leading the top chemistry graduation programs in Brazil, with the maximum grade, according to the regular ranking of the overseeing and funding government agency CAPES. The Graduate Program in Chemistry offers master and doctorate courses, with solid foundation in basic areas of inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. Since 1971, during which time it has also been active in pushing back the boundaries in many more specific areas with an interdisciplinary approach to the different branches of chemistry including organic and inorganic synthesis, catalysis, molecular biology, natural products, biotechnology, liquid crystals, nanotechnology and plasma chemistry.
